Calleri over Fletcher?
I love Slav and all that, but am continuously mystified why he keeps bringing Calleri on instead of Fletcher.

Not sure what Calleri brings, and he's not going to be here next season. Fletcher is better (IMHO) and is our player.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Maybe Slav and the coaches are seeing more in training from him and want to give him game time to prove himself. And TBF you have no idea what the manager's decision will be over Calleri in the summer, especially if he does start to show something.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
I think he's starting to look better. I think they really want to try and see what they've actually got in him now the team is settled, playing better and there's no sulky French fucker casting an ugly shadow over it all. Besides which we only have him until the end of the season don't we? So we'll need to decide on his future and if we want to keep him.

Fletcher obviously is ours and younger, so there's time there. I'm sure he's not happy about not playing more and I certainly hope we don't ship him out. he's got something about him, but I think he's become a bit overhyped by some of us at a very early age.

Hopefully he gets his chance too.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Scorch probably right here. Slav thinks he is better and using the limited time to asses.

Can't see him here next season tho . What's the price on him?

Rossal 1:55 Thu Feb 16
Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
He loooks like to have got his head down with training etc and got that goal against Boro so Slav thinks he is worth having around and seeing if theres a prem striker there

Not convinced on him or Fletch....neither have impressed hugely and Fletch hasnt really pushed on since those early season apps

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
And that's the problem Rossal, IMO

I truly believe if Norman Stanley had been given the starts and opportunities that Calleri has been given, we wouldn't have been so worried about going the rest of the season with no back up striker. He looked class to me at the beginning of the season, scored and then was left hanging, his confidence no doubt draining away.

I'm firmly in the 'Slav for manager' camp and love the bloke to death but would have been really keen to see a couple of the youngsters bedded in, especially young Fletch.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
the fact the argie isn't on a clause for perm at the end I don't get the reason why he's ahead of fletcher all the while

I can only assume Slav doesn't rate Fletch that much

either way its a cunty situation that should of been avoided

I wonder if the pricks sort a right back in the summer, as in a quality proven one from the prem

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Calleri is only 2 years older than Fletcher 24 & 22. If either are going to make it at the top level they need to be showing it now.

Someone as proven as an ex Real Madrid and Liverpool right back perhaps?

I have think Calleri's recent performances have slowly been improving, hence Bilic is still giving him a chance.

A few chances end up in the back of the net, his confidence grows and I think we'll see a completely different player emerge from that we view of him now.

It's now or never for Calleri, Fletcher has time.

His confidence will grow just in time for his flight back to Argentina, ie he's definitely going back at the end of this season, so what's the point of growing his confidence?

Frankie van der Elst 2:54 Thu Feb 16
Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
I think he's starting to get a bit of confidence. He did a few good things in the last game in terms of control and lay-offs, and a good turn and shot.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
If the aim is to develop Calleri and then buy him, I'd suggest they try and arrange a cut-price deal now. Rather than trying to drive up the price they'd have to pay if he did hit form.

Trevor B 2:58 Thu Feb 16
Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
V

We are clearly not trying to 'develop' him, but merely to see if he is worth bidding for. Deportivo Maldonado paid 10m for him so they will want a profit and we then need to make sure he is worth any deal we might be looking at.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
He's been here 6 months. Surely they know what they think of him by now?

Honestly I don't think they know what they're doing with him past the next week. As others have pointed out it just doesn't make much sense.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Don't rate Calleri too light weight. There was an incident late in the West Brom game where the defender simple nudged him off the ball. Fletcher had a great season last year and would make him first choice coming off the bench.

Trevor B 4:26 Thu Feb 16
Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
Why do you think clubs take players on season long loans? It's usually because they are unsure about how they will adapt to the league, so they get the benefit of having the player for a whole season without the downside of spending out a huge sum in order to find out if he's going to work out or not.

It's not rocket science V, although quite obviously you will tell me it is......

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
It's one of those situations where you'd want a director of football to have a quiet word with the coach to say "what's the point of what you're doing with this player?".

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
TBH I think it is a toss of a coin between the two although I think that Calleri is a bit pacier.

I saw nothing of Fletcher last season but if he was as good as some suggest then it highlights the step up in class to the Prem.

Re: Calleri over Fletcher?
haven't seen anything from Calleri, at any point, to justify his existence in the team. West Brom was no different. Fletcher can hold up a little better, but other than that he's not much better either. He also doesn't have as many years playing as Calleri, so could still come good, but currently neither are very attractive options.

Frankly neither. Both unimpressive I'm afraid
